I am perpetually optimistic in everything from the little ones like lottery tickets, stocks, football games to the big ones, like world peace and environmental protections.

I guess that is what has bothered me about the current Bush administration. His has been the most pessimistic, I have lived through. He and his people are so negative on everything from individual rights to perpetual war.

I happened upon an old "New Yorker" in the bathroom of course, dated October 14 & 21, 2002.. To quote Hendrik Hertzberg, "The Bush vision is in the end a profoundly pessimistic one, and as such, more than a little un-American. It is, among other things, a vision of perpetual war. "World peace" used to be such an uncontroversially good thing that Miss America contestants, even at the height of the Cold War, could safely say that they were in favor of it....."

I could not have said it better myself. <g>
