Back online again. In college I had a mentor who was really into binary search trees. He had me take a course based on the book "Algorithms" by Donald Knuth. Nowdays I work with a DBMS where all that stuff is behind the scenes.

What fascinates me about Google is the way it automatically becomes an extension of ones brain. I'm dealing with a relative who has a moderate case of Alzheimer's, and hoping there will be some Google-like brain appliance available in the future in case I'm afflicted when I get older.

Back when I made that metal detector I was not in gold country. Found a few old coins, and a huge heap of bottle caps and aluminum poptops. Was amazed in the last few years when I learned that people have been finding lots of gold nuggets, especially in Australia.

I have other ways of making dough so professional gold mining is not attractive. No interest in dealing with short seasons and permit hassles.
