I like the spin on this piece of news...
... as opposed to the eastern part which is indicating the exact opposite!

(COMTEX) B: German business index continues to drop
B: German business index continues to drop

BERLIN, Nov 26, 2002 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- The main German business mood
survey registered continued decline in November, the Munich-based Ifo Institute
reported Tuesday.

The Ifo Business Climate Index, a survey conducted monthly among 7,000 firms,
dropped from 87.7 points in October to 87.3 in November for the western part of
country, and for the eastern party, from 97.8 to 95 points. Both were the lowest
levels since January.

Gernot Nerb, chief economist of Ifo, attributed the confidence decline to the
government's intension to raise tax and low domestic demand.

But he said the index for the western part indicated that the economic situation
for the bulk of industry actually had stabilized and that a recession in Germany
is not in sight for the moment.
