So, I don't understand what was so disturbing. The fact that they have more historical buildings than are in Washington and are more interesting than the current government buildings? Sorry, I missed it.
You didn't even mention the Eiffel Tower and how about the Palace of Versailles, now that is magnificient, IMHO.
BTW, I couldn't get into the Louvre when I was there. The workers were on strike!
