I gave some thought to this and there's a lot missing in what I was working on before. I like your suggestion:

top=highest(H,3);

then if it stops making a new high for 3 days the top is tenatively fixed, or perhaps entirely fixed? The decline that follows might need to meet some qualifications that I'm not familiar with that influence whether that top is still in transition or is fixed.

After declining if it reaches a point where it fails to make a new low for 3 days then bottom=lowest(L,3);

One of many errors in what I tried didn't allow for the box to be in a continual formative state until it became fixed. I skipped past that without knowing it was necessary. The flip side is that I didn't include anything to reset the box and I'm still not sure what the rule is for that but it's obvious that at some point a fixed box is violated and is in a transition state again.
