Yes, ESST's ES32xx PMP chip (Programmable multimedia processor, another name for media signal processor, MSP) similar to 8x8's VCP (video controller & processor) IS being programmed and shipped in:

(1) VCD 1.0, 2.0, 3.0.
(2) MPEG 2 vidoe/audio decode & AC-3 audio decode;
(3) H.320 and H.324 video phone (by 8x8)
(4) web browser (by 8x8);

No, ESST's ES32xx has not been programmed for
(1) Ethernet MAC function;
(2) Internet telephoning; (ESS has developed host based software with its DSP chip)
(3) x2 56 kbps modem; (this is done with ESS's DSP modem chip)
(4) WAN managing;
(5) personal call forewarding; (this is done with ESS's DSP modem chip together with host based application software)
(6) fax - off - the computer; (this is done with ESS's DSP modem chip together with host based application software)
(7) Pager call center; (THis is NOT done).

Since ESS's ES32xx has a 32bit RISC as the CPU, it can be used as system CPU in a embedded environment. If you can find a lucrative market to sell, please call Fred Chan for a sales / marketing job and DO it.
