Searle,

From memory the Federal government was quite bullying and intrusive in the 1960's for that matter. Freedoms taken away generally come from the left--can't have a statue of Moses in your hometown park, can't develop your property the way you see fit, can't serve your coffee hot at a diner because some trial lawyer will take you to court and sue your a$$ off, can't sing a Christmas song at school or have a Boy Scout meeting there, can't wear a fur coat without the risk of a spraypainting, can't have a job without paying some lame union that supports much of the above, it's sickening.

The main underlying worry about being "watched" by the government is too little too late. Once we allowed Social Security numbers to be issued it was a done deal. They could track virtually anything about us back then. That was the biggest hurdle for organizing a government 1984 style bureaucracy and it was Democrat Roosevelt who did it. Anyone who doubts this has their head in the sand.
