Why is it absurd?

We are agreed on one point: That there are differences between sharks and porpoises. Obviously.

But you say those differences are important, and imply that they are important at all times to all people. I say not.

I am presenting to you a person and asking whether the differences are important to that person at that point in his life. I think your problem is that you are trapped. You can't say yes, because obviously the differences are unimportant to that child at that point in his life, and you're too honest to say otherwise.

But for some reason you can't bring yourself to say that no, those differences aren't important to him. I don't know why not.

If you can say that, then we can have some better understanding of the term important, and we will have progressed. What's wrong with progress?
