The degree to which the separatist issue is ignored back there seems quite strong recently .. we've just had a quebecois member of the family visiting here, saying it's not on the agenda at all, rarely discussed, many of its proponents discredited for various reasons, other issues far more important .... of course this is not a de souche speaking, nor one from 'money', rather an individual from 'the ethnic vote', lol, but a person with some considerable attachment by now to the soil and the local neighbours of all lingual backgrounds ..... on the ground in Québec, in contact with many many people, and even though my french is poor to non-existent, the only memorable problem i ever had with anybody was from an italian cabbie who tried to rip me off in Montréal .... the language laws are indeed orwellian, a crying shame the way they dishonour the lovely tongue that is french, but i think we can live through this, come out the other side without losing the country .... quebecois forestry communities are under attack right now along with those of BC, there are less of them there but still it makes us allies in a cause
