EC,...border crossings,

I get pulled over going into Canada 90% of the time...of course if you saw a picture of me you'd know why.<G>
I really don't mind it though, means to me they're doing their job. I just wish they were a little more knowledgable.
First crossing this past summer, told them I wanted to renew my permit for the shotgun - pulled over & went in - 2 "first nations" females checked out my rig (truck camper & 12' Wells Cargo trailer with ATV and supplies inside). After 20+ minutes they emerge with something in their hand.
"What's this?" It was a Bear Banger I bought in '01 at a Canadian Tire in Prince George...still in the case with the price sticker on it (actually forgot I had it). After another 20+ minutes inside and a thorough inspection by 7 other guards it was deemed "OK" however, make sure I declare it every time I cross the border. No matter its a Canadian product sold in Canada!!! Every time I crossed, even up in the north (Skagway to YT, Haines to YT) not one border guard knew what the damned thing was...and most Canadians I met on trails had them!
Another time I was questioned at length because I had a piece of duct tape over the end of the shotgun barrel. Finally I told the girl that in VietNam we used to put rubbers over the ends of the flash suppressors on the M16's.
A few years ago, the shotgun I brought had a choke on it. Had a helluva time telling the young fellow it wasn't a silencer!
As I said, I don't mind the searches at all, gives me a break from all the driving. But I just wish they knew a little more about what they're looking at.<G>
