And, how did Powell get his star status? Could it have been through education and achievement?
Through political astuteness and competence or, if you like, by saying and doing the right things that his superiors loved to hear and see done. He won approval all around, so much so that, at one time, many folks wanted him to be a presidential running mate. But he declined saying that his wife was afraid that some kooks would kill him. So he decided to lie low. But he was not forgotten. When Bush Jr. became president, he no doubt picked Powell to be Secretary of State because of his dad's recommendation and he knew that Colin would be overwhelmingly approved and accepted.
Well.... besides the signs of bureaucratic incompetence, it was well known to many in our government that God was shielding America from attack.
Unfortunately God only help those who help themselves. Too much faith can be just as bad thing as too little faith. The Moslems placed full reliance on Allah but it didn't seem to help them much.
Too bad! Excessive faith in God shielding America had resulted in complacency and a big kick in the butt, eh?
As to what was Condoleeza Rice was doing with all the vital info, go and ask her. BTW, don't forget
that CR was chosen by Bush because of her academic qualifications and alleged political acumen, and because she is black and Bush wants the black community to know that he does not discriminate against them. In actual fact, by choosing Powell and Rice, Bush wants to be in the good books of the blacks and count on their support.
I will not be so cruel as to tell the victims' families that 9/11 was not a sneaky attack because it will
hurt them no end. They have already suffered a lot. Why rub salt into their wounds? In any case, they won't believe me. Besides, if they do, they will have a grudge against the government. This is a no-no as the government needs the full support of the people.
98%. What shows the Arab's intention to destroy Israel is the six wars, in which Israel was attacked by Arab states, 60 years of terrorist attacks, and the fact that few Arab states recognize Israelis right to exist.
BTW, here is something at once interesting and controversial about the six wars.
1. The Arabs apparently placed too much reliance on Allah to help them win (since they believe their cause is just) but, as it turned out, they had not learnt from their lessons. Apparently they believe that Allah was just testing their faith and so they got to believing that if they didn't succeed at first, they will have to try and try again.
2. The savvy and well-prepared Israelis (who always knew they could count on the support of Uncle Sam, the British and the French because of the latters' oil interests) enticed the Arabs into attacking them. They knew very well that their victories would entitle them to annex more and more territory thereby securing their presence and increasing their security as well as bargaining power in the Middle East. Indeed, the wars resulted in Israel gaining territory. However, in one instance when peace was signed between Egypt and Israel, Israel returned Sinai to the Egyptians.
I believe that for as long as there is oil in the Middle East and the world continues to rely heavily on using oil, the problems in the Middle East will continue for goodness knows how much longer. Needless to say, there are no easy answers or so it seems. America is too concerned about going in alone for fear of world opinion. Maybe the best solution is that proposed by some fella not too long ago: Dehumanize that goddamned part of the world by means of one or more nuclear bombs!!! This will send them all to their Heaven and to Paradise!!! And the cancer that has been scourging us will be vaporized in a jiffy! |
