Neocon & Zonder both owe you their gratitude, IMO. Your post is the brilliant shining star of the exchange! No kidding. When one reads your last link concerning old meanings, all comes clear. Beyond the correction of the meaning of the word "synonym" you opened with, quite rightly Neocon might be more forgiving too, as for anyone taught only the differing definitions for the two words such as Bilow(presumably), Neocon would have to be wrong(though the seemingly different definitions Zonder first provided in fact each logically encompassed Neocons particular Homonym problem, as Neocon perhaps indicated).
