I'm not, and never have been, a religious person. I have the same strength of belief and purpose in the importance of many of the central tenets of many of the world's religions: generosity, honesty, all the 'good' things we all (should) strive to live in our lives. I don't think there's a necessity to believe we do good because of an example from above, nor in fear of retribution if we don't. I just think it's clearly the right way to live, to struggle to achieve.

I respect those who do believe, and who live their lives according to the teachings of their beliefs (not just lip service).

I like your sermon. The metaphor of the clenched versus open hands is wonderful, and I am sure it was as well received as it deserved to have been. And hopefully it opened a few clenched fists today.

Cheers
