EV is more meaningful when used with the sales than the profits of a company. In fact, EV/Revenues is frequently used as a measure to compare these companies most of which don't have profits anyway.

I would not say that cash levels "skew" P/Es or anything. Of course then you also take into account the debt levels of a company.
