It was becoming generally accepted, even before DNA evidence was available, that the basques were likely to share roots with the brits who preceded the celts ... the basque tongue and the various dialects of gaelic tend to change over the years fairly rapidly and almost thoroughly, but linguistic clues remain, somewhere on the net there is a good page on this, and a number of publications available through sil.org .... a fellow in Arizona has summed up here what he's heard - geocities.com

He's talking about the celts, but the pre-celtic peoples come into it .... here's another clue that has been long recognised, the scots and the basques having in common a bagpipe tradition - rootsworld.com ... there is now more than a little 'salsa celta' around, bagpipes violines and latino drums the principal instruments, with a little luck in the city of México you can catch it in the parques, the Alameda, the Zona Rosa, as well as concert halls ... doesn't really belong in the latter, as you cannot sit still and listen to much of it, but must dance or run away, the civilised version of the old choice 'fight or flight'

The celts and pre-celts are neighbours in the Iberian Peninsula as well as in Brittany and Britain ... this site won't permit direct links to its pages, but click on 'IBERIA' here for a touching on that - memory.loc.gov ... the people of Galicia, where the big oil spill just happened, have much for celtic roots, they are just to the west of the basques .... Churchill in the first volume of History of the English-speaking Peoples lays out some of what was in 1939 known or suspected of these connections

This can't be off-topic, any single part of it must be foreign to somebody -g- ... very interesting the connections that DNA knowledge is bringing to light, eh .. there was one theory they were working on, that there were only seven original mothers known .... maybe what we need as a species, is a common enemy in another galaxy ... but hopefully one with artillery that can't quite achieve the range .... cheers
