I've been long golds since 1998-1999. Added in 2000 and 2001. Mostly SoAf - HMY, GFI, DROOY, AU. Entered short semi stocks last week. Will add puts later. Went short financials/retailers a few months ago. Best recent trade was short Sears. I owe most of my good trades to Heinz Blasnik, reaper, KT and a few others on SI. Did some bottoms catching during summer, lost money on most. After I bought tech after 9/11 I felt that I was a great market timer. This year my timing is completely screwed, so now I admit that my performance around 9/11 was pure luck. Now learned my lesson and swear not to catch falling knifes.
I'm subscribed to ContraryInvestor.com and Fred Hickey's "The High Tech Strategist". I like both a lot. I'm also subscribed to Marc Faber's "The Gloom, Boom and Doom Report". I like his ideas, but they haven't made me money yet. I read Steve Roach and his gang daily. IMO it's the best free research available.
