Some species of maple may indeed grow in each province, I'll take your word for it. But only the leaves of the sugar maple turn red. I guarantee you that a red maple leaf is something you will never see occurring naturally in the west.

I've always thought it was interesting symbolism, putting that on the flag. After all, we know what happens after the leaf turns red.
