To "understand" why a suicide bomber kills babies is precisely the same thing as saying, "well, I can see WHY he did it". When you say, "I can see why he does it", it is effectively bringing about a conclusion that the behavior is reasonable. Which it isn't.

That's your conclusion, and only your conclusion. There's no point in me trying to interrupt your internal dialogue; it refuses to let anyone else in or allow anyone to suggest something that might interfere with your fixed-in-concrete value system.

My "internal" dialogue is based on what the words actually mean. If you don't MEAN that you understand why the suicide bombers do what they do, then you should not SAY you understand it.
