"How do they know right from wrong?"

It either irritates or sometimes amuses me when religious types indicate or actually emphatically state that one cannot be morale without having a religion. Morals are, for the most part, simply common sense, eg the ten commandments.
Which commandment was a revelation to you? You could have written them yourself if you used common sense, but since you have at least a few biases your church must have failed you. You don't need rote memory to know what's right or wrong....Do you stop and think what portion of the bible tells you what you want to hear so you can justify you actions... Common sense does that without the biblical options...

My children's values are not based on religion even though most religions share those same values. My daughter, in your parlance is a tree hugging, animal loving, love everyone type who got her values at home. She is raising her children the same way. My son's values also came from home but his atheism comes from scientific thinking, as does mine. I am not searching for myself, as you suggest, but rather am constantly searching for the person who can explain his vision of god and why he believes. You couldn't. People usually get very fidgety when the subject is brought up...
