This article by Elon is interesting History, John. I won't bother to argue individual points in it, because it is no longer relevant to the present situation. The last three years of attack by Arafat, in an attempt to run the Israelis off, tied in with the results of our hardened position caused by 911, has changed the whole basis for settlement.

And Al Qaeda, by attacking in Mombasa, has joined the Palestinian terrorists directly. This lines Al Qaeda up with the PA, Hamas, etc. Bush now has no reason to support Arafat or the PA at all as long as this connection is there. IMO, Al Qaeda has killed the Pals chances for a state.
