Lazarus has indeed "contributed" much to Canadian Libertarians:
"In the Autumn of 1997, one subscriber known by the pseudonym Lazarus Long started sending large amounts of email to another subscriber, Victor Levis, whenever the latter posted to the mailing list. Both Mr. Long and Mr. Levis have had long and animated debates on the mailing list, often disagreeing as to the nature of liberty rights. As Mr. Long was using the mailing list postings as a trigger for the alleged "mailbombing" of Mr. Levis' electronic mailbox, Mr. Levis asked Mr. Chapeskie, responsible for day to day administration of the mailing list, for help.
Mr. Chapeskie undertook the unprecedented move of unsubscribing Mr. Long from the mailing list, solving the trigger problem, since Mr. Long would no longer be receiving postings to the mailing list. This action was met with protest by Ken Wiebe, an executive member of VILA, who insisted that the list remain open to all. Mr. Chapeskie has refused to continue administering the VILA mailing list, a service he had been provided to VILA free of charge.
At issue is whether the action by Mr. Chapeskie was warranted, given the circumstances: Mr. Long was mot affecting or interfering with the operation of the VILA mailing list-- he was merely taking advantage of information placed there for the perusal of any subscriber. Mr. Levis, however, has expressed the opinion that his email access in general, and access to VILA mailing list postings in particular, was severely affected by the manner in which Mr. Long used the VILA mailing list. Such interference of one VILA subscriber's access to the mailing list by another, he argues, is counter to the open communication charter of the mailing list, and thus administrative action, consistent with the charter, is warranted."
