Interesting questions. I think, as you have said, that "the extremists disgrace and mutilate a great religion" (just like the Inquisition and witch hunts of the Dark Ages of Christianity disgraced and mutilated -for a while- Christianity).

As for whether or not millions of Muslims are asking themselves these questions, yes, they are. However, with fear of fierce and deadly reaction, these issues are not being discussed with others.

Eventually, of course, they will be. Then will come a bloody uprising of the people, their very own Renaissance.
