Safire on Henry the K. "Set a Thief to catch one!"

Just read it over coffee. I'm surprised by the argument. Had expected Safire to brandish his old contempt for Kissinger.

If you pair Safire's arguments about Kissinger's changes of heart and motivation, and, what's genuinely difficult, accept them at face value, with the Bush administration's proven complete antipathy to any such commission, you have an interesting future. That's where Safire's argument that Kissinger is looking to his historical legacy will collide head on with the Bush folk's desire to keep the lid on.

I would love to be a fly on the wall in the conversations between George Mitchell, Kissinger, and any rep from the Bush folk when these issues are discussed. Behind closed doors.
