But at this point in the game, the evidence provides a landmark change in our understanding of deep-ocean circulation. During the shift from glacial conditions ~20,000 years ago to the interglacial conditions of the past ~10,000 years, the salt source of the deep sea switched from the Antarctic to the North Atlantic. This finding is sure to be a major feature in modeling studies of the glacial climate.
