The moonlessness of an autumn night
I smelled the leaves and their dying plight

I was hunted down by faceless ghosts
The vilest dreams that hurt the most

He floated down from the skies of hope
The smiling wizard with a yard of rope

“I’m hungry, wretched, far from home”
so he walked me up to his pleasure dome.

Thru the silver mists, on trail of gold
He made me watch the truth unfold.

There he sat me down and told me "See
things as they really are, not as you wish them be"

Then he took me in his warm embrace
Whispered healing words of peace and grace.

And he blessed my band with twigs and grass
And he wrote on it "This too shall pass".

He drenched me in wisdom then draped me in trust
But I knew he had to go, and that leave he must

I closed my eyes as I took him in.
On the other side of time, always within.
