Though I doubt if anyone will pay much attention to me, since I got the PE all wrong, I'd like to go through the process of picking a good stock:
1. Understand what the company does
2. Pour over the numbers carefully
3. If possible, watch the product's performance in the "real world"
4. Think carefully and hard about the possible future of the product
5. Try to get a feel for the quality of the management
6. Know the competition
--It seems the contributors to this thread are great at #'s 1,2,3 and 6. I don't think we can ever really know the weaknesses of management until it's too late. The future is a guess. Someone in computers told me this: "Zip drives? Oh, anyone ( i.e. IBM, Dec, Apple, etc.) could make those; they'll become commodities in a year." Is this likely, I wonder? Can "anyone" make drives that are quite similar to those made by iomega?
