Alighierei Re...When things seem to be going the way you just describe above the rhetoric escalates. Witness today's speeches by Bush and Cheney, Wolfowitz on a wirlwind tour, etc... Cooperation is the last thing these guys hope for. They want exactly non cooperation so their job of justifying war is made easy. and if they don't get it, they will create fabrications, innuendo and trumped up charges. <<
and apparently so do you. In an answer to Tench you said.
That said, there is nothing wrong with reforming our policies by beginning a process that aims to solve the Palestinian dilemma, pressures the Saudi to reform towards democracy, finishes the job in Afghanistan and deals with Iraq through the UN, with proper diplomacy and with the goal of resolving the issue effectively and hopefully through peaceful means (please don't tell me that we are already doing that).
Please explain your words in the middle of my two paragraphs. Where is the inconsistency between these paragraphs from two different posts by the way?
Let me ask you. What better way to accomplish all of your aims defined in that paragraph. Part of the Palestinian problem, is the meddling by the other arab neighbors. Saddam is one of the primary meddlers, through his payments to the terrorists. If GW can stop the terrorists, by cutting off their funding and support from other arab nations, a solution for Palestine could be found. Secondly, by establishing a democracy in Iraq, if successful, that would put enormous pressure on the rest of the Arab monarchies and dictatorships to do likewise. Thirdly, getting rid of Saddam and his warlords could show Afghanistan the way to democracy, and free up funds. And by putting pressure on the mullahs, Islam could be bought under control. So Iraq could be the key to what you hope for.
What incredible reasoning. Invading Iraq will show Afghanistan the way to democracy. Wow. And there I was thinking it's the other way around. All the while I am thinking that Afghanistan is a mirror of what is likely to happen in Iraq, when the repressive central government is no longer in power to keep the various factions under control. And of course the average Arab will be so grateful to America for the first time in history. After we humiliate another of their countries, reshape every Muslim's sacred land into a democracy, Saudi Arabia into another America in the desert, all the Islamic fundamentalists reformed, all that hatred will turn to admiration overnight. Great plan. I finally get it.
