Krugman WAS one of the leading economists of our time. His pieces are consistently full of errors and mischaracterizations. Once he was a giant but now is just an angry bitter man. John, I frequently read people from all sides of a debate but I catch Krugman manipulating the facts too often for me to take him seriously as an economist in his op-ed pieces. In those he is just a political commentator with no special credibility.
I think he will win the Nobel one day but that will be for his work 15 years ago on increasing returns and international trade.

Bob Novak might be a more apt comparison from the conservative side. Novak was once a agile economic thinker but is not a conservative curmudgeon with nothing of interest to say.
