Hi Nadine Carroll; Re: "Re: Turkey. What a surprise (not really). Wonder how much they got for their cooperation?"

Since Turkey is insisting that permission to use their bases for an attack on Iraq would only come with further (explicit) UN resolutions, this isn't news:

Turkey Approves U.S. Use of Bases
Susan Fraser, AP, Yahoo, December 3, 2002
Turkey's foreign minister said Tuesday that his country would allow the United States to use military bases here if the United Nations (news - web sites) approves military action against neighboring Iraq.
...
Yakis said that another U.N. resolution would be needed if there is to be a war in Iraq.

"The present resolution ... does not allow the automatic resorting to armed intervention," Yakis said.
...
Earlier, Wolfowitz did not answer directly when asked if the United States had asked for permission to station U.S. troops in Turkey during any war.
...

They're still saying that they will not cooperate with a unilateral attack on Iraq. This is not a change from previous policy. See, for example: #reply-18076475 and #reply-18104443 .

But hey, if you want to interpret this news as supporting a US attack against Iraq, please provide me with a prediction. Talk is cheap. Talk has been going on for a year. Still no war.
