I am not an Arab! You are barking up the wrong tree, Robert. One very good reason why the Arabs did not succeed was their implicit trust in Allah to work miracles for them. Little did they realize, as the saying goes, God helps those who help themselves. Another reason for their failure is that behind an external front of solidarity, the Arab leaders don't trust each other much. Read T.L. Lawrence's book, "The Seven Pillars of Wisdom" and watch the movie "Lawrence of Arabia" and you will see what I mean. Even today there are several rival factions in Palestine. You can say the same for other Arab countries and their leaders, I suppose. Rightly or wrongly, I heard that the Arab leaders are too much taken up with their own ease and comfort and are not doing much to improve the social conditions of the have-nots. Did you know that heavily armed Italians were defeated by the poorly armed Greeks in the 1940s. I suppose you would say a miracle happened then for the Greeks? No way! It was just that the Italians valued family and life more than fighting for Mussolinni. They were thinking more of their wives and kids than of fighting their enemies. To return to the Arab-Israeli conflict, the Israelis won because they were united and had a set goal and to them it was very serious business to ensure they survive. That's the difference. Miracle? Bah humbug! No substance at all! It's all due to committed and dedicated hard work that is always coupled with a vision for tomorrow. They certainly believe in tomorrow. But don't you ever forget that American contribute $3 billion worth of aid to Israel every year. And Israel has been helped by western powers ever since 1948. The same cannot be said for other Arab countries. You may claim this is a miracle. But the truth is that America needs Israel in the ME for pretty obvious reasons. Arabs may be said to be oil-rich and have lots of cash But did you realize that the West conspired to get their oil for almost nothing? No wonder they formed OPEC and demanded and succeeded in getting the oil price increased.
