I hope that nobody in a position of power is making policy decision on the basis of Saddam being a control freak, survivor and power addict. While probably true, they don't provide much access into how he might behave. It describes probably 90% of the world leaders at any moment.

Whatever the assessment of Saddam, you must include the fact that he makes serious errors in judgement. He thought the world would let him keep Kuwait.
