Ted Re...As Mani pointed out, the Old Testament does call for violence and as far as I know, the Old Testament is still considered a part of the Bible. Furthermore, throughout history, adherents of Christianity have committed violence in the name of their religion just as adherents of Islam have committed violence in the name of their religion.

I argue there is no difference between the two religions when it comes to this issue.

And I would argue that the church, while supporting the crusades, has learned that it is not wise policy, and has stressed peace on earth ever since. Islam has yet to come to that conclusion.

What I find interesting is that Al Qaeda announced today that they were going to target women, children and old men. While the crusades may have butchered a lot of innocent people, I haven't heard that just women, children and feeble old men were their targets. The point is that just targeting civilians will come back to haunt them. I doubt if anyone or any group of combatants wants to be known as baby killers. With their announcement today, Al Qaeda today degraded themselves down to the lowest possible level. I find it bizarre that you are trying to degrade christianity to that level.
