The entire New Testament puts those Old Testament verses in the proper context (at least according to the Christian point-of-view). Taking one of those OT verses and acting on it literally means also taking all of the OT verses and acting on them, especially those that apply to oneself.

And Jesus makes perfectly clear that no one is free from the judgement of the Old Testament law.
