Since Said is out of the country, it has been difficult to keep up with his feuds. REASON
Dropping Insults Over Iraq
By Charles Paul Freund

About all I can tell from this essay is that Freund has decided which side he takes in this argument. My own guess is that the history between Said and Makiya is long, complicated, and one that would require a more balanced assessment, but also a lot more work. Is Said capable of some pointed personal observations? Obviously. Are his substantive arguments credible in this case? Can't tell from Freund.

It seems to me that assessing the arguments of someone like Said, who is one of the right's favorite bogey types, requires more careful analysis than other, less out of favor types. Freund did not do that.

But the posts of his work you put up from Reason have been more than simply interesting. I read each one.
