No need to regret being polite to Zonder. Why not be polite? Zonder, it appears, reflects the thinking of the enlightened Middle East and Europe. We have to keep talking.

Their history is full of violence, provocations, excessively clever politicking… They look at us and think “Good… Let those gringos have a taste of the real world… Let’s see them make fools of themselves, trying to deal with this “real” reality, with which we had to deal for centuries…”

But… What is “Real” reality? Perhaps, they are confusing centuries of their own stupidity and misfortune for “reality”? Perhaps, “reality” is what we have, being strong, proud, wealthy, and with an air of invulnerability? Maybe we do not need their brand of “sophistication”…

They do not understand the depth of our injury on 9/11. If you are accustomed to take beatings and abuse, you’ll say, “what the hell… life goes on… that’s how life is”. If you are proud and strong – on the other hand – you’ll take this threat to your self-identity with utmost seriousness, and will respond with great commitment.

As far as Bush is concerned, I think that our blue blood cowboy President so far is doing as well as one could hope. He seems to have a Reganesque contact with what is real… he doesn’t get lost in words and in make believe constructions… Who knows, maybe having a little dyslexia is not always a bad thing <g/ng>.
