Crouton made a speech to the liberal caucasoid, mostly ontario members, that he used to think Englishmen had horns and "were horned devils" when he grew up in Quebec. It was recently in the TO. Star. Then he went on to say he travelled widely in Canada and came to realize "what Canada was all about". He is supposed to be speaking to French people who are prejudiced, to let them know that if they have prejudice they should lose it. And vice versa, fr. actually wash their socks more than once amonth, unless they have lots of them ... etc..

But the effect of it is so much as to say, that there are lots of prejudiced fr. who hate English. That they cannot figure out that it is a waste of time, or wrong to do so, even from Rimouski, is perhaps lost on Crouton. I guess you could say that he accepts the reality, but the comment only serves to polarize English people more. How serious is it? Well, it is one more nail in the coffin.

I think you can summarize fr. - eng. relationships by the fact that when an English speaking person visits Montreal, the prostitutes will still ask him if he "wants to make love" (English prostitutes use "go on a date" etc..they always euphemize it. The fr. are distinct in that manner. They don't beat around the bush. Also the prosties instantly recognize that one is English by the look, without hearing you speak. This is common too. They never speak fr. first.
