theory of being in the "zone" or "flow"...

I think we've all had times where for a while everything seems to be in some kind of groove. As long as you don't get cocky, you can prolong the effect and accomplish some remarkable tasks that are usually beyond your abilities. The trick is to realize when it's happening and not disturb it. For me, it just sometimes happens, and sometimes it occurs in response to an emergency. In the latter case, time seems to slow way down. Everything becomes almost like a slow motion movie. Very odd. Even though I'm not a mystic, I've always called it - 'Synching with the cosmic.

I've often wondered if something akin to this altered perspective occurred in the famous no-hitter

We really know surprisingly little about the human brain. Why do the most original ideas come when your in a state of semi-consciousness? Like just waking or just going to sleep. If you "watch" yourself at those times, you can almost feel the new idea(conceptualization) occur as the pieces of a puzzle shift and "click" into place.

Always fun when it happens, but (for me) it can't be forced. It's more like getting out of the way.
