The fact that there might need to be debate does not, itself, disprove the objectivity of the contention, it merely shows that some things are a matter of complex judgment, rather than simple measurement, and may therefore take time to deliberate about.
I need to think about that, becasue it seems to me that if reasonable minds can differ, the thing is by definition not objective.
But leaving that aside, if even after discussion some people say they don't agree, then clearly it is subjective. And even after a year's debate, I doubt you will get all educated historians to agree precisely on a ranked list of the importance of the Presidents, or all qualified directors to agree about the precise reading of a Shakesperarean play.
Given your approach, it's hard to see that you believe much if anyting is subjective. Maybe you believe all life is objective, it's just that not everybody has gotten there yet? |
