Does anyone have the Terms of Use from 1997? Was it ever stated that SI postings would be free of advertising? In response to my email, this is what I received:

Hello,
Refunds are not offered. We do apolizie for any inconvenience but there is no reference to advertising free message posting in the Terms Of Use. Though this was offered at one time, the fee on SI is for the ability to post messages not the filtering of ads.
