" having children.....relegating the care of their children to others through day care.."

You may be shocked but I'm going to agree with you. My wife and I firmly believe that a child needs a mother at home at the very least when he/she goes off to school in the morning and also when they return home in the afternoon. We think if very important that a mother play that role and that is the way we conducted our lives. Our grown children often tell us how much they appreciated that and my daughter is raising her two children exactly the same way. My son is not married yet but agrees wholeheartedly....

re: Hillary....I think you view is distorted because of your political views but I can speak from much knowledge of the book. Have you read it? My understanding of her thesis is that a child cannot be raised in a vacuum, ie a community is best for raising a child, a community with civic programs, nice neighborhoods, and good schools and medical facilities.

Having said the above, I've often pondered what would happen to our economy if just 50% of women who are working stopped doing so and became full time mommies. I think it would literally destroy the economy because the last data I recall said that fully 70% of women of working age are, in fact, working. Loosely calculating, assuming half our population is women, that means that 35% of the working population is now women. If half of that number stayed home, there would be a 17.5% drop in the number of people employed which would create a huge labor shortage and probably plunge the economy into deep recession. Where would that replacement labor come from?? For these reasons, I think it fallacious to attribute the rise in the number of working women only to the women's movement. Since most business people are Republican it would be in their best economic interest to support the women's movement and recruit women and I believe they do.

Look at my analysis carefully and tell me where you disagree.....
