Chris and Cable Geek,

Here are some of the basic IVDS/LMDS differences I have been able identify:
IVDS @ 218-219 MHZ, LMDS @ 28-31 GHZ
The LMDS spectrum in size is 1500 times that of IVDS. LMDS operators will have an advantage over other wireless technologies
because of the amount of spectrum that is available for it.

IVDS 218-219 MHZ is prime spectrum real estate, LMDS is waaay up there. I don't think the higher spectrum frequencies carry as far or have the penetration qualities of the lower frequencies. However, I think they are less susceptible to interference. Shorter carring distances require a costlier infrastructure, i.e., more repeaters/amplifiers etc.

The LMDS licenses are far more robust, they can be used for practically any type of video and data transmission. Cellular Vision operates LMDS commercially. I don't know of any significant commercial IVDS applications currently in use.

LMDS is a "fixed broadband point-to-multipoint microwave service." I don't know if it is multipoint-to-point like IVDS but from what info I've been able to find, it appears that there is little LMDS can't do. The IVDS competitive advantage may only be as the low cost provider (an advantage that shouldn't be discounted).

Hey Cable Guy, your the technical guru, what are your thoughts?
