>>Zhou Huan, chairman of Datang, said TD-SCDMA uses a lot of core IPR that was actually developed by the Chinese themselves...<<

May be true.

>>...and does not use Qualcomm technology.<<

May be true if referring to the Chinese core IPR. Clearly false if referring to the total package.

>>Siemens and Datang, developers of TD-SCDMA, says the technology is more spectrum efficient than its two rival technologies, WCDMA and cdma2000.<<

Probably true.

>>They also say it is at least 20% cheaper to implement...<<

May be true for WCDMA. Probably NOT true for CDMA2000.

>>...and has higher data transfer rates.<<

May be true for WCDMA. Is it true for 1Xev-DO?

>>As the United States government supports the CDMA standard...<<

Huh?

>>...and Europe supports GSM...<<<

Definitely true.

>>...our government should back TD-SCDMA," Mr Zhou said.<<

Why not? They have to have something to negotiate with...and to fuel the FUD machinery. The fun part is that this FUD machine could affect Eurovendors as much as Q, maybe more so. After all, which tech has higher royalties?

Will the Euros be able to take a dose of their own medicine?
