Saddam apologizes

This act illustrates a very important point: Saddam can be deterred. Given the impression of overwhelming military force to topple his regime, Saddam has played his political cards quite adroitly. Claims that Saddam is an insane, irrational dictator are simply not true because if he were crazy, Saddam would be openly challenging Bush 2.0 and his neocon buddies to topple him right now.

Now, you can make a point that Saddam has made miscalculations in the past just as we have made ours, but we need to separate the myths and perceptions from facts. We have faced greater menaces than Saddam in the past and equating Saddam as an immediate threat to our security or the invasion of Iraq as having a significant contribution to our war against terror is really a great political stretch.
