you may be right... I think the issue for me is media reaction to this... the verdict was controversial enough for mainstream news (the news with Brian Williams on cnbc for one) to say... "why do I feel like winona ryder is being made an example of"... this wasn't legal commentary just mainstream news when they covered the story

The problem is the justice system especially LA is tarnished enough... just deliver a noncontroversial verdict for a change is all I ask especially for something as meaningless as shoplifting... something middle of the road.... but no, it has to be "controversial"... now all the talk shows are going to dissect what is wrong with justice again...

As far as Ryder, this notoriety might help her career as she is being viewed as a victim
