now that it is over except for some bowling you always have some
sticklers of what impressions you have of a season. This season:in
retrospect was one of ups and downs. Emotionally it was one of the
longest and hardest to endure in memory.

It was a season of, first impression, ball carriers not tucking the
ball away at critical points; juking and faking with the ball of all
things, getting stood up, not switching the ball to an off hand, not
lowering a helmet and getting a few yards. Second impression is of
not even looking for the ball but playing catch up to the receiver
and third impression was of some really untimely penalties.

We had too few sacks and you really missed some of the individual
athletic play we have become so accustomed in years past on the
defensive line. I missed the big hits that the linebackers used to
mete out with impunity and custom made for the 11 PM news. Play at
corner seemed about the same and whether it be a current graduating
senior or a few others of memory I can recall other times that
graduation seemed as pleasant an alternative to a second stringer
moving up to a starting position.

But you know rule number one in life is that rarely do individuals,
organizations or teams exceed expectations and if you go back to
where we started out, our expectations have been met and from that
you suck it up and move on.

Any rational person must ask if this is the same team that started
the year in terms of personal maturity. To be honest I feel that the
team did not mature as much as could have reasonably been expected.
If there is an intangible I deem it to be a lack of internal
leadership that evolves in successful programs. Aside from coaching
there is an intangible in great teams that makes it easy for a coach
to coach and even have some fun doing it. You even heard Beamer say
himself that he couldn't sleep many nights..I feel it is wondering
what intangible is lacking..and wondering what he could have
personally done better. In reality, many times you never will
know..it is either there or it isn't.
At this point I think it is right to ponder on the season even in
preparation for some bowling.....
