A similar thing happened to a liberal photographer. He was grateful for it.

Jefferson Hills, PA -- Today while taking photographs of the Peter's Creek area near Gill Hall Road for an ecological blog, Rob Carr was stopped by the Jefferson Hills Police for engaging in suspicious activity. The officer explained that, with things that have been going on lately, "We have to be careful of people taking pictures of government areas." The area where Mr. Carr was stopped was, in fact, Federal Government property, although it is also a popular fishing and dirt-bike riding spot.

Others might think that stopping someone for taking photographs in the Peter's Creek area was a bit excessive, but not Mr. Carr. "This is a valuable ecological resource. You don't know when some terrorist or other Republican anti-environmentalist might come through and attempt to destroy the 20 or so endangered plants in this area. I'm grateful that the police are so alert."

edit - I guess they're not exactly similar. The guy outside Cheney's hotel was roughed up, detained, and had his property confiscated. A bad situation. Out of control cops and feds have been doing this type of thing for a long time, long before there was a Patriot Act.
