Thanks for the long post. I would share back with some long statement of my position but I have the feeling I've already done that extensively. As you can see, we are at different places for different reasons. Let's see a couple.
I gather from a previous post you consider we are already into a clash of civilization; I think Al Q was trying to push us there with 9-11 but, one of the ways I approve of Bush's work, he and some of his administration have resisted that. Witness his most recent visit to a mosque and continued statements that it's not Islam that is the American foe but "terror." I must put that in quotes because it is such a floating signifier. Covers the waterfront and, in my view, is a part of a our problem.
I also gather from your posts, you will look with greater favor on Bush the more vigorously he prosecutes a war against Iraq. As you can see, I think there are two more important priorities: searching out and destroying Al Q's effectiveness, and initiating a large program, perhaps something on the order of a Marshall plan, for the ME.
Well, that's two things. As for Canada, it certainly sounds politically more comfortable for me than my state of origin, Texas. The Democratic party of Yarborough, etc. is not to be seen. And the Republican party of the evangelicals has taken control. Uggh |
