Yes, I think he was saying that 9/11 was a moment of sudden transformation of Bush, though I haven't looked around for the post.

Churchill was a great man long before WW2.

War doesn't transform "morons" into geniuses. What it does is focus the wishes of the people in such a way as to unify them behind whatever leader was there, and that means that they tend to idolize him a bit.
