I don't know that Lewis book, Noel. The only clash of civilization book on my shelf is Huntington. I've read about a hundred pages in but put it down to do other things. I gather, from the little I've read, that Huntington, writing in the early 90s, saw such a clash as coming in the future but, foreign policy guru that he was, hoped that his work would lead to the creation of more mediating institutions, institutions which could moderate the conflict to keep it from outright warfare.
