I'd edited my response after you posted back. I agree we have mistakenly gone into provocation mode. I think the line between tolerance, defense and offence is pretty tough to navigate. But I don't think turning the Internet to NSA is required or desirable.

If putting us all under house arrest made us safe, I would not go for it. We should listen more to the world community - they have, for the most part, already had their "911s". Many of them have good insights.
